The Hinckley Fire District is located in Southern
DeKalb County, in
north-central Illinois. It protects about 2,500 citizens, residing in
approximately 64 square miles, including all of Squaw Grove Township,
most of the southern half of Pierce Township and the
Village of Hinckley. We respond
to an average of 200 emergency calls per year, with about 140 those
being requests for an ambulance. We hold an Insurance Services
Office (ISO) rating of 5 in the Village limits, and 9 in the surrounding
rural area. We provide Advanced Life Support treatment and transport through our EMS service. The Hinckley Fire District is a separate entity from the Village of Hinckley. It is governed by a Board of Trustees who oversee all aspects of the operation. These trustees, who are appointed by the County Board are: Gale Nehring, President; Pete Wassmann, Treasurer; and Allen Bark, Secretary. The Department consists of one full-time Chief, and 30 "Paid-on-Call" firefighters and Emergency Medical Technicians. This means that there is not necessarily anyone on-duty at the station at any given time. All firefighters and EMTs carry a pager with them at all times, and are alerted to an emergency call by that device. Emergency calls that are made to the "911" number are answered by the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office, who then handles dispatching personnel and equipment. The District is a member of MABAS Division 6 and affiliated with Division 13. Persons interested in joining the Hinckley Fire District are encouraged to stop by the station on Tuesday nights; or may call 286-7711 or click here for an application and more information. No experience is necessary, we will train you. It is a rewarding and exciting way of supporting your community. |
